Sleep and Cognition Advanced Course in Siena, Tuscany (Italy)

July 8 – 15, 2017 in Siena, Italy.

This Advanced Course will cut across multiple fields of sleep studies and will address important emerging areas. Emphasis will be placed on cutting-edge methods and hypotheses for understanding sleep and its effects on cognitive functions, and on how neurophysiological/genetic/imaging approaches can shed light on the functions of sleep and its essential role in maintaining and preserving vigilance, performance, learning and memory. It will be an interactive, multidisciplinary forum in which participants will discard outdated notions, gain an appreciation for the latest thinking, and develop insights that will help navigate the complexity of sleep research.


Research Assistant Position available in Vision/Attention/Cognitive Science @ Visual Attention Lab, Harvard University (USA)

This position is in the lab of Jeremy Wolfe. We conduct psychophysical/behavioral research primarily in the area of visual attention. How do you find what you are looking for in a world full of things you are not looking for? How do radiologists find a tumor in an x-ray? How do their eyes move when they are searching? How can we keep track of several things at the same time? Healthy young adults are the experimental observers for most experiments. Medical image perception, especially with radiologists as observers, is an increasingly large aspect of work in the lab.

The position involves all stages of the research process, from planning experiments and preparing documents for the human subject review board to helping write up results for publication; but the main focus is data collection and analysis.

PhD opening in the neural mechanisms of decision making @ University College Dublin (Ireland)

Applications are invited for a fully funded 4-year PhD position in the Cognitive Neural Systems lab ( ), led by Simon Kelly, to study the neural mechanisms of decision making. This position is part of a project funded by Science Foundation Ireland, which involves a combination of psychophysics, computational modelling, non-invasive electrophysiology of human brain and muscle, and analyses of existing single-cell neurophysiological data. The funded research is specifically focused on the impact of value (i.e., how much decision outcomes are worth) on the dynamics of decision formation in early sensory, decision, and motor areas of the brain.
